“View Of Rutland Water With Normanton Church” 30cm x 75cm Acrylic on board

Here is a great example! This privately commissioned painting was created for a lovely client who was familiar with my work and had previously bought a small painting from my Artist Support Pledge exhibition in early 2020.

My client emailed me with the request of a view of Rutland Water including the beautiful Normanton church with the large round harvest bales in the foreground.

I replied immediately that it was something I would be delighted to paint for her.

We had a telephone chat about what she loved about the view and decided on the dimensions of the proposed piece, I was then able to give a quotation for the artwork.

Once a price is agreed I create an invoice of which 50% is due in advance as a non-refundable deposit , the remaining 50% is due upon completion.

“View Of Rutland Water With Normanton Church And Staw Bales” 30cm x70cm Acrylic on board - Detail

I waited for the perfect day and found the ideal place from which to get the very best view and composition.

This painting was created “en plein air”, meaning “in the fresh air” or on location in the field with the view before me; that way I feel I was able to capture as much as possible the late summer afternoon light and the depth of the blue sky.

It took several visits to create the painting as the light and weather sometimes changed. I sent my client photo updates on my progress at each stage and on completion of the painting.

Having agreed on the style of framing I then took the piece to my framer to be simply framed.

My client was delighted with the end result, this is what she said:

“I am happy with everything you did Jane. It was lovely that you shared my enthusiasm for 'The View', understanding why I liked it so much. Your description of  the weather, where you sat and the colours, mood/lighting etc made it even more special. It all happened at the right time and you keeping me in touch with how you were progressing made me feel so part of the whole process.”

I was so pleased to have created just what was wanted!

The remainder of the invoice is settled on delivery of the work.
