A Great Art Workshop Day!

On Saturday 21st September 2024 I had the great pleasure of running a workshop for 7-11yr olds with “Discover Art” at the Harley Gallery at Welbeck Abbey, Nottinghamshire.

I was proud to have had my painting “Woodland, Late Spring, Arcadia Gardens” includes in the Harley Open 2024 and as an exhibiting artist I was invited by the educational team to share insights into my art practice and some of painting activities related to my working process. This was part of Discover Art program for children which runs every 3rd Saturday of the month.

I have a long history of teaching art I was more than happy to put together a workshop based on my recent Arcadia Gardens collection of drawings and paintings .

The beautiful collection of plants lent to us for the art workshop by Notcutts Dukeries.

I wanted to create an inspiring indoor mini garden in the gallery for the children to observe and respond to in their artwork.

Notcutts Dukeries Garden Centre who are situated opposite the Harley Gallery kindly lent us a colourful collection of perennial plants to use as subject matter for drawing and painting.

A miniature garden was created in the studio as subject matter for the young artists.

Exciting Art Techniques Inspired By Nature

We had a busy morning creating a pastel drawing and an acrylic painting using a variety of drawing and painting techniques including layering background pastel colour and overlaying with detailed foreground and experimenting with masking techniques using stickers with paint.

All the children were fantastic and did lots of wonderful painting!
