This is a painting I made several years ago from sketches created on location at the site of the ancient Iron Age hill fort, Burrough Hill, in Leicestershire.
The position of the fort commands incredible views for miles across the surrounding area, particularly to the west. The view here shows the ridge to the south west towards the village of Burrough On The Hill, I recorded the unfolding drama of the weather and landscape interacting as rain showers and sunshine moved across the the distant hills.
It is a truly unique, magical landscape that has captivated, inspired and empowered people since the earliest human inhabitation.
This is now a place I come regularly to make sculpture at The Traditional Co based at Burrough Court. Every time I drive here I am inspired by the views and the area has an increasing significance to me personally.
