Elipse
“Elipse” in mild steel, created in collaboration with The Traditional Co recently featured in the “Concrete 2.0” show garden by Tythorne Garden Design at the RHS Spring Festival in Malvern from 9- 12th May 2024.
The design evolved from studies of basic biological cells, the smallest units of life; and contemplation of the material and non-material elements of living beings. The resulting sculpture is symbolic of the presence of life.
The central space allows the viewer to see through from one place to another and frames features of the surrounding area. The form of “Elipse” and the views through the central space constantly change as the viewer moves around observing the sculpture from different angles.
“Elipse” stands 1400mm x 1100mm x 100mm. The internal structure consists of multiple walls holding the surfaces in place but keeping the sculpture light in weight. The surface has been cleaned of all mill scale to allow oxidisation, creating a consistent rusty patina perfect for exhibition in the “Concrete 2.0” show garden.
The ”Elipse” form itself is held on a 550mm x 35mm solid steel rod post attached to a base plate 400 x 400mm, fixed with 4 x 500mm steel pins. The base support and fixing is buried and out of sight or may extend above the ground surface o “float” the form above the ground if required.
